Dog and Puppy Training
About our Trainer...
Andrea Minasian has been training dogs professionally for over 25 years. She has trained her own dogs to compete in Agility and Rally and Obedience. Several of them have earned their titles at the Masters level. She has also trained her dogs to compete in Tracking and Flyball. She is a Professional member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), a supporting member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC), a Mentor Trainer for Animal Behavior College, a member/trainer for the Mt. Nittany Dog Training Club and a certified American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
Training Methods – Auntie G's uses positive, reward based training methods that are based on the principles of shaping and operant conditioning. Simply put, dogs are rewarded for making the correct choices when we are teaching them new behaviors. Incorrect choices are not reinforced. We do not use pain, force, fear or shock collars.
We use clicker training as well as verbal markers to tell the dog when he is correct. Once a behavior is learned, it is put together with a hand signal and/or a verbal cue.
Our School - We are proud to announce the opening of the new Auntie G's Dog Training School at 908 Pike Street in Lemont! We offer group classes and private lessons at the School. We limit the size of our classes to a maximum of 6 dogs, some classes have a maximum of four. Our Upcoming Classes are listed below. Training Programs - We are pleased to present our new curriculum called Canine Life And Social Skills or CLASS. Developed by the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), obedience skills are divided into four levels: H.S or Basic Obedience , B.A. Obedience, M.A./CGC Obedience and Ph.D. Obedience. At each level, dogs and handlers are guided through the exercises to help each team achieve CLASS! Graduation certificates are awarded at the conclusion.
Our other classes are: AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy, Agility Foundations, AKC Trick Dog classes, AKC Caning Good Citizen Test preparation and evaluation, Show & Breed Ring Handling, Therapy Dog training, AKC Rally and Obedience Show Ring preparation.
Private Lessons - Our private lessons are tailored to your needs. In addition to the core set of exercises, management strategies and additional exercises are customized to your exact situation and needs. Lessons are one hour long and most often scheduled weekly until the dog and handler team has completed the syllabus.
Behavior Consultations - We also offer Private Consultations for behavior problems and issues that are not part of the normal lesson plans. These are scheduled on as "as needed" basis and are for dogs who are having more difficult problems.
